Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Jug

Beautiful hand painted ceramics from Bordallo Pinheiro in Portugal. Cabbage, in its rough and flat form, could be used as a metaphor for Portugal’s rustic ways, which Bordallo had so many times caricatured. This was a clever way to honour it, placing it on the bourgeois’ tables, where other way it had not been invited.

Bordallo Pinheiro established in 1884 brought all his passion and creativity, social awareness and sense of humour to his works. Simultaneously proud of centuries-old production techniques, and supported by the most modern manufacturing techniques, the Bordallo Pinheiro Artistic Faience Factory is renowned as the guardian of this irreplaceable heritage, actively working on its preservation and transmission.
